Needless to say, I find this to be sleazy, deceptive business. It's bait and switch. I've used Yarnall in the past, but my relationship with them is over. Next time I will find an upstanding company with integrity. That's not Yarnall.
I have moved a household full of items 7 times since 2000, with at least 50% of the moves being long-distance (e.g., MA to CA, FL to VA, MA to FL). I have used a variety of full service movers. My recent move from FL to VA was handled by United and this is a review of that move, which was done professionally. United was among the best movers, not as good as the best mover in a corporate move of a 3 bedroom/3 bath home (from MA to CA and costing $75,000), but was just a little bit below (in that I had to be aware of items like aerosols that could not be moved and separate those out while in the corporate move, the movers sent a person in to take care of everything beforehand). My estimate is that the move would have cost 10-20% of the $75K if done by United.
I used Yarnall a year ago to move me from my home which was sold into a rental for a period of one year while I built a new house. The movers we so professional and did all sorts of extra little favors like taking pieces apart that didn't quite fit and putting them back together again. I was so impressed with their expertise and friendliness. I am now ready to move into my new home and I am going with Yarnall once again and hoping I can request the same four men who moved me into the rental. They were exceptional.
I called Yarnall Moving two days ago to move a dining table approximately 60 miles from Sarasota to Tampa. I spent a long time on the phone with their representative, describing the table, it's weight and it's dimensions accurately. I was told the price would be approximately $400.
Two days later when I called to make all the arrangements , Yarnall told me it would cost "at least $900, maybe more."
We've experienced a lot of moves over a quarter century of gov. service and we rank Yarnell with the best of them. Yarnell handled two moves for us in Sept. 2017. the first, an interstate move of household goods (furniture, books, etc.) from FL to CN, loaded 12 Sept and delivered the 22nd.. Bob, the over-the-road driver for that shipment, was highly professional, articulate, and showed ingenuity and initiative when faced with an offload challenge at the CN delivery site. Displaying a "can do" spirit, Bob met the challenge and successfully delivered the load. The second shipment, a local move from Bradenton to Sarasota FL was completed on 13 Sept. The 4 man Yarnell crew, led by Charles, exceeded our expectations. It is worth noting that hurricane Irma passed over the Tampa Bay area 10-11 Sept so both the moves by Yarnell were done with Irma in mind. From beginning to end, Yarnell kept us informed and in the loop. We highly recommend them for any move, be it local or interstate!
United moved my household belongs from Tampa, FL to Arlington, VA in late Feb 2017. This involved a full pack, loading and unloading, and then a partial unpack (of the kitchen) and a removal of all empty boxes on the day of the unloading. I went to 4 moving companies for estimates. United was not the lowest but was very competitive. The estimator was accurate and thorough AND honest, and included crating of an expensive glass table and special handling of some large artwork. The move coordinator, Stephanie, was excellent. Each time I had a concern about the loading and/or unloading, she was on the phone to clarify or fix issues, e.g., arranging for unpackers to come in from the local United Van Line organization within 1 hour of a call. She made the move go smoothly!
The loading was excellent. Even with rain, the runners protected the floors of my house. The unloading was also good even though the destination was on the 12th floor of a building and required the unloaders to actually carry some artwork up the stairs since the piece was too large to fit in the elevator! The movers were careful with the only damage being a slight chipped front of a small wood file cabinet. United paid the small damage claim within 2 weeks.
We had a good experience with Yarnall Warehouse. The men who packed up the 120 boxes plus several rooms of furniture were professional, hardworking, and efficient. The move was complicated by the fact that there were three different destination points and everything had to go into storage for a week (i.e., off-loaded from the truck into the warehouse in Florida, shipped up North, then on-loaded onto a smaller U-Haul truck and delivered). On delivery day the movers arrived an hour late, but worked hard to make up for lost time---in the pouring rain. We had some valuable art, some of which was crated expertly and another piece which was simply wrapped in a padding blanket. Apart from the delay and the mis-crated art, I was very satisfied. This is an reputable company--communications are prompt, the price is competitive, and the service is excellent. I would recommend Yarnall Warehouse to anyone.
Bait and switch at Yarnall Moving.
This was my second moved with United. Previously, I had moved from Sarasota, FL to Dunedin, FL. The same estimator was used then and was honest, open and reliable. The same move coordinator, Stephanie, was also used and she was very good on this easier local move. In the longer Tampa, FL to Arlington, VA move, she was just superb and made everything go easier. I would definitely use United to move again.
