Poppy has been coming to Sarasota Veterinary Center since she was a puppy, and we couldn't be happier for the care she has received here. She is 2 years old now. She has had all her well check ups here, a minor surgery, sick check ups, and she has even been a boarder over a long weekend. She loves Dr John, and Dr. Dave, and all the loving staff. It always smells clean, all the staff is very kind, caring and professional. They ALWAYS call the next day to check on Poppy. They are always helpful and patient with all our many questions, and allay any worries we have about her care. Sad that I am moving and can't take them with me!
This vet uses unconscionable business practices. The one located in the Burlington Shopping Center to confirm.
Dr. Dave Smith is very compassionate and thorough. The office staff are warm and welcoming and organized. My dog Kevan loves Dr. Smith!
Response to vet:
Yes, it has been three years. A beloved local vet recently passed, and I was reminded at his memorial service of the compassion he had for animals and their owners. I recollected the opposite experience I had at Sarasota Veterinary Center and it prompted me to post my overdue review.
My friend arrived quickly to drive us to the ER, and this greedy place gave me the impression they would not release my trauma alert dog before I paid the bill! I didn't have my purse. I was literally in shock having been in a pit bull boxer mix brawl to save my dog's life. I was an established client in good standing. I asked if they could just send the bill, and they said NO!!!
As a pet owner, and an animal lover, I have never had a better experience with veterinary center. EVER! The people that work there, from the front desk, to the technicians in the back, one can tell instantly that this staff isn't just there for a paycheck, but that they are also animal advocates. From the office manager to the front desk staff, particularly Linda, one can easily see that they too genuinely care about your pets. Dr. Smith is amazing. Period! My dog is everything to my wife and I. We are very particular about everyone who cares for and interacts with her. Dr. Smith has an incredibly calming effect on our dog. Which is rare. He doesn't look for ways to generate revenue, he tries to figure out solutions to resolve issues, find solutions to problems, and make the animal feel secure. In fact, my dog is never nervous or afraid to visit the doctor. Not only do I recommend, in the strongest possible way, you take your pets there, but I encourage anyone who loves their pet to do so.
I'm happy to report my dog is fine after two huge surgeries and $5000 dollars. Also, apparently the ER vet is required to refer the patient back to the original vet after they are released from acute care - obviously that's about the money too. I adamantly refused of course, as this place would never see another dime from me.
With me crying, my face bleeding and hands shaking, I called a friend to come get us as I needed to relieve the nice lady who was kind enough to drive us there. Again and this was apparent to the staff, I didn't have my car, or my purse, which had been locked in my car prior to the attack. They were all back at the scene.
Everyone at Sarasota Veterinary Center is very kind, caring and considerate. The place itself is very clean. I have been taking my 2 dogs there for 14 years, and would recommend this facility to everyone. The dogs have always gotten excellent, loving care. I have also boarded my dogs there
This is the whole story. You be the judge and ask yourself if this is the kind of place you want caring for your family member.
How much clearer could I have been with my review. I DIDN'T NEED A PAYMENT PLAN OPTION. During the crisis, I just needed to get my dog to the emergency room and happily pay you the next day - BECAUSE I LEFT MY PURSE AT THE ACCIDENT. You were told that. You gave the impression you were not going to release my dog unless I paid. My friend only offered to pay because she saw the uncomfortable situation going on. This act alone supports my story.
Let me paint the awful picture. My dog was almost murdered by another dog and I had to rescue her from it's jaws. I was bitten, had blood and dirt all over me, was clearly in shock, but my poor dog was in even worse shape. Fortunately, my established vet, THIS PLACE, for which I had been several times was close by. So, a kind stranger rushed me and my dog to them using her car. When we arrived, the vet took my dog in the back to evaluate her. I believe they flushed her wounds and gave her an antibiotic shot, and then recommended I take her to the emergency vet as it was closing time for them. No problem at this point, plus the ER vets are there all night.
I could not believe it and I will never forget their refusal to mail me the bill, or maybe ask me to stop by the next day and pay them given the circumstances. I can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors. Fortunately, my friend was able to pay the $300 bill for me and we left. I understand that vets operate a business, but how Sarasota Veterinary Center handled this situation aligns with the other very poor reviews of this practice.
Lastly, I know better now, but please don't allow your smaller dog with big dogs at the park EVER. Careful as I was hovering like a helicopter, it can happen in an instant; and I feel like a bad mother. I wasn't fully aware of the dangers and should have been. It was a very traumatic and expensive mistake.
I think follow up calls would be expected from a vet after such a traumatic experience. Should that be special and something bragged about? And I did complain to the front desk when I picked up her records. In the days following when my dog was suffering, her care was my only priority; and that included talking to you on the phone about medication.
