The largest library in the area is downtown Sarasota Selby Public Library. The building is an architectural masterpiece. The kids section is separated from the mail hall through a coral reef gate. This is a huge aquarium formed like a gete. Tropical fishes swim above your head when you pass the entry. A section is selling heavily discounted paper books. The library is following modern trends: audiobooks and ebooks having an increasing share.
Had a couple of questions and dealt with 3 different staff members...all very friendly and helpful.

I feel like I'm back in the 5th Ave Library in New York. Lots of hidden treasures for exploration. Check out the Sarasota Music Archives, fabulous newly renovated Bookstore, new creative courner for Teens, exhibits in the Rotunda and free films,lectures and more in the auditorium.
Books..lots of good books...and many are $1 fill a bag!
